A formal association of PR Practitioners and consultants from across Gujarat, known as the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) – Gujarat Chapter, was formed about four decades ago. Markets like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, and Rajkot, which were key nerve centres of activities back then, were under the ambit of the Gujarat chapter.
In 1982, PRSI Gujarat Chapter was split into the Ahmedabad Chapter and the Vadodara Chapter. That is when the genesis of Ahmedabad chapter formally took place.
Among the founding members of the Ahmedabad chapter are Mr Hasmukh Shah, Mr Sudarshan Desai and Mr Jay Mande.
For nearly a decade, PRSI Ahmedabad has remained actively involved in creating awareness about the profession and organising various PR practitioners, professionals, and firms into a statewide society. A key objective of the Ahmedabad chapter was to raise the standards of PR practice, create awareness around it, improve its quality and efficiency, and develop a more organised and structured approach to it.
Under the leadership of PR industry stalwarts like Mr Dhananjay Shah, Mr Bhagwandas Shah, Mrs Laxmi Nagaswamy, Mr Mukund Kansara, Mr Suresh Buch, Mrs Praxy D’Costa, Mr PR Joshi, Ms Rekha Budhdev, and Mr Dinesh Bhagat, PRSI Ahmedabad chapter has thrived and scaled new heights. This in fact was a golden period PR activity taking place here.
Besides developing the community of PR professionals, practitioners, and consultants here, PRSI Ahmedabad chapter has also gone beyond the realms of its domain to contribute towards the development of society.
Even though the PRSI Ahmedabad chapter saw a quiet period between 1991 and 1996, it resurrected in November 1996, with the assiduous support and guidance of Mr Mukund Kansara and Ms Rekha Budhdev. The Ahmedabad chapter was relaunched under the chairmanship of Mr BL Yadav. Since then, the PRSI Ahmedabad chapter has been steadily advancing.
By then, the Indian economy had already liberalised, paving way for a paradigm shift in the business and industry landscape of the country. Leveraging the opportunities presented then, PRSI Ahmedabad chapter has evolved into one of the most active ones in India.
After Mr. Yadav stepped down, Mr Vivek V. Shah took over the reins. Under his leadership from 2005 to 2007, PRSI Ahmedabad chapter received a coveted honour – two national PR awards in Delhi and Chennai. There’s been no looking back ever since.
The PRSI Ahmedabad chapter launched its own website and its own Awards under the chairmanship of Mr Bhavesh Upadhyay.
From among the founding members of PRSI Ahmedabad, Mr Hasmukh Shah, Mr PR Joshi and Mr Vivek V Shah, went on to assume leadership roles in the PRSI National Body.
Over the years, the baton of PRSI Ahmedabad chapter’s leadership was passed on to seasoned and dynamic PR practitioners, who carried forward the legacy of the society, while fuelling its growth and evolution with changing times.
